In the past two weeks, St. Catharines Fire Services has responded to eight fires, all of which were preventable, says Fire Chief Dave Upper. In response to the recent fires and with the colder weather approaching, SCFS is asking residents to keep fire safety top of mind.
The causes of the recent fires included unattended cooking, a space heater, and careless smoking.

The pools at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre will have some modified operating hours over the next several days, starting Monday, Nov. 4, for a lighting renewal project.
To minimize disruption and avoid a full closure, work to replace the lighting in the pool area will be taking place overnight. To accommodate the work, however, there will be some slight impacts to programming, with the pools opening later, and closing earlier, most days during the replacement program.

Tree pickup takes place Oct. 26 at Lancaster Park
Registration opens this Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8 a.m. for St. Catharines residents to reserve a free tree, as part of the City’s 2024 Fall Tree Giveaway.
