The Garden City Golf Course is officially open for the 2026 season, and we look forward to welcoming golfers back for another fantastic year of golf, recreation, and community.

Owned and operated by the City of St. Catharines, Garden City Golf Course is conveniently located in the heart of the city at 37 Lincoln Avenue. Our beautifully maintained par-60 executive course offers an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all ages and skill levels.

Whether you're looking to improve your game, enjoy a relaxing round with friends, introduce a family member to golf, or simply spend time outdoors, Garden City Golf Course offers something for everyone. Golfers can warm up before their round on our putting and chipping green or sharpen their swing in our practice driving cages.

Surrounded by mature trees, rolling fairways, and picturesque scenery, the course offers 3,563 yards of golf from the red tee blocks and 2,971 yards from the yellow tee blocks, creating a fun and memorable experience for players of every ability.

Following your round, be sure to stop by our clubhouse and enjoy our friendly atmosphere. Our daily beverage cart service is available throughout the course, and our clubhouse patio and barbecue services are currently undergoing exciting renovations as part of our 2026 improvements.

Position Overview

The Garden City Golf Course is seeking friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to serve as Volunteer Golf Marshals for the upcoming golf season. Marshals play a key role in ensuring an enjoyable experience for all guests by maintaining pace of play, assisting golfers, and upholding course policies - all while enjoying free golf benefits.

This is a great opportunity for retirees, golf enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys being outdoors and engaging with the golf community.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Monitor and maintain proper pace of play
  2. Politely communicate course policies and guidelines to players
  3. Assist golfers with course navigation and general questions
  4. Report any course issues or safety concerns to management
  5. Provide outstanding customer service at all times
  6. Monitor any illegal alcohol consumption or intoxicated patrons
  7. Monitor improper or unsafe use of golf carts
  8. Enforce Blue Flag protocols for patrons with accessibility needs
  9. Clears the course in the event of inclement weather/course closure

10. Serve as a positive ambassador for the golf course

 

Qualifications

  1. Passion for golf and knowledge of basic golf etiquette (prior experience with leagues and tournaments preferred)
  2. Friendly, professional, and approachable demeanor
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Reliable and punctual
  5. First Aid/CPR certified, preferred
  6. Customer service training, preferred

 

Schedule & Commitment

  1. Flexible scheduling options available
  2. Typical shifts – 6 hours each
  3. Weekend, weekday, early morning, evening and holiday opportunities

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to drive a golf cart safely
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods
  • Must be willing to work in some extreme weather conditions for long periods (sun, heat, cold, rain, etc.)
  • CSA approved footwear is recommended

 

Volunteer Benefits

  • Volunteer marshals are entitled to free golf on days when they are not scheduled to work - equivalent to one 18-hole round with cart for every 12 total work hours
  • Free golf is subject to tee time and cart availability
  • Free golf must be used in the same season as accumulated (no carry overs)
  • Free golf is not transferable and has no cash value

  • Monday to Sunday 18 Holes: $26.80 walking; $46.80 riding

2026 Prime Season Weekday Rates (May 16 to Sept 30.)

  • 9 Holes: $20.40 walking; $30.40 riding
  • 18 Holes: $31.15 walking; $51.15 riding

Power Cart Policy

  • Power cart rental prices are per rider (per person) for nine holes.
  • Power cart rental prices are per rider (per person) for 18 holes.
  • Must have at a minimum G2 license to rent a power cart.
  • Weather conditions throughout the season may prevent power carts being permitted on the course.
  • Must sign a cart agreement form.
  • Players should be prepared to walk as our power cart inventory is offered on a first come first serve basis.

Booking your Tee Time 

Reservations can be made up to 7 days in advance by calling - 905.682.6432, walk ins are also permitted, but reservations are recommended. You may also book online.

The golf course will open seven days a week as of April 30, and the season tee times start at 7:30 a.m., with a shift effective May 2 to 7 a.m. The final rounds of the day will hit the course no later than 3:30 p.m. for 18-hole golfers and about 5 p.m. for 9-hole golfers, with the timing anticipated to change in the summer.

Booking requirements

  • Fees will be charged upon check-in at the Pro Shop
  • Name and phone number are required to reserve a tee time. 
  • We only accept payment via VISA, Mastercard, AMEX and debit. We do not accept cash.
  • Tee times are adjusted throughout the season based on daylight savings.  Call the clubhouse for tee time availability.
  • Golfers must have their own set of clubs or rent golf clubs (left and right hand available) from the clubhouse. 
  • You must check in at the Pro Shop 20 minutes before your start time. If you do not register on time, you have to forfeit your position and your group's reserved tee time.
  • Players should be prepared to walk the course, as golf carts are available on a first come, first served basis.
