Victorian Tweets
What if the Victorians had Twitter? "Victorian Tweets" juxtaposes daily Victorian life found in newspapers, diaries, letters and other materials from the museum's archival collection against the modern Twitter-verse.
Explore the "Victorian Tweets" digital exhibition and scroll through Tweets and photographs that portray Victorian life through the popular 21st Century social media app!
Coming Home: Commemorating the End of World War Two
The "Coming Home" virtual photo exhibit captures the poignant memories that formed the experiences of many soldiers and their families after the Second World War ended in September 1945.
Using the unique online features of the History Pin Collection, we are able to create a picture map of the relevant locations throughout the City of St. Catharines. In some cases, we can even see the specific locations then and now (these images have a little yellow person icon in the lower left corner)!
Lock Views
The Welland Canal system, over time, has consisted of four different canals and nearly 100 different locks in somewhat different locations across the city. The "Lock Views" virtual exhibit presents a small, yet visually interesting photo-history of the Welland Canals, its locks and the St. Catharines community that sprang up as a result of its water power.
Photographs in this exhibit come from the museum's collection. Images with the little yellow person icon in the lower left corner show current locations contrasted with the historical photo.
History Pin
Explore St. Catharines through the lens of the city's diverse residents in History Pin, a "living time capsule" created with the help of members of our community.
We're mapping the special places and meaningful stories that make up the St. Catharines community using History Pin, an online storytelling method that captures stories, images and local history with mapping pins, and contrasts the viewpoints of each location then and now.
