The St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of athletes and volunteers who have contributed significantly to the development of sport in St. Catharines. We also recognize those who have excelled at the provincial, national and international level in their sport.

The St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame is located at 1 David S. Howes Way on the Concourse Level of the Meridian Centre.
Hours of operation
The exhibit is open during select events at the Meridian Centre, or you can contact us to book an appointment.
Nominations
Please complete the Sports Hall of Fame Nomination Form and submit it by email. Your application should also include:
- Name and contact information
- Sport
- List of achievements
- Photographs and supporting documentation
We will review all nominees and notify those who are accepted. Applications are reviewed in early September every year.
Nomination criteria
Individuals can be nominated in two award categories: Athlete and Builder.
Athlete criteria
|
Athlete inductions recognize the accomplishments of St. Catharines athletes who have excelled at the provincial, national, or international level. To be inducted in the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame as an athlete, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be born or raised in St. Catharines
- Live in St. Catharines for a significant period of time during their sporting career
- Demonstrate superior athletic performance or contributions to their sport
- Be retired from sport for at least three years
- Have competed at the provincial, national, or international level

Builder criteria
|
Builder inductions recognize local individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of sport in the city. Candidates for the builder category, must meet the following criteria:
- Be born or raised in St. Catharines
- Live in St. Catharines for a significant period of time during their sporting career
- Must be 50 years of age or older
- This can include coaches, officials, media personnel, sponsors, and sports administrators

About the Hall of Fame
The St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame was first established in 1990 and began as a small exhibit at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre. Here are some highlights from over the years:
- In 2012, we unveiled the Wall of Fame at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Complex
- In 2015, the Wall of Fame was moved to the Meridian Centre
- The Sports Hall of Fame Committee consists of 10 members
- The founding committee included Jack Gatecliff, Joe McCaffrey, Ellard O'Brien, Archie Katzman, and Bill Stevenson
Exhibits
The Hall of Fame features an exhibition space showcasing a selection of sports artifacts and memorabilia as well as the Wall of Fame that displays the names of those who have been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.
The current exhibit showcases the history of Lacrosse in Ontario and was developed in partnership with the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum and with support from the Canadian Lacrosse Foundation. This exhibit will be on display until summer 2025.
