The Budget Standing Committee works on behalf of Council to address high-level strategic budget and financial policy decisions.
The Committee, while working within the processes and requirements of the Strong Mayor Powers, Building Homes Act, 2022, as amended, and any other legislation, will provide financial guidance and oversight from a broad perspective to assist and improve upon the City’s budget process, as well as short-, medium- and long-term financial planning.
The Budget Standing Committee will have the following roles and responsibilities:
The Budget Standing Committee reports to and provides recommendations that require approval from City Council.
The Budget Standing Committee will meet up to six times throughout the year or as required at the call of the Chair.
Meetings will be held with full Council participation in the period leading up to the tabling of the Operating, Capital and Water / Wastewater budgets.

The Budget Standing Committee consists of a maximum of six members, including the Mayor and five City Councillors, as appointed by a resolution of Council at the start of each term of Council.
The Budget Standing Committee members are appointed to a four-year term and the selection of the chair is the responsibility of the committee.
