The City of St. Catharines is proud to open the community’s first public labyrinth to Fairview Park, formerly home to the Fairview Golf Course and Mini Putt. The new feature – the first of its kind in a St. Catharines public park – has been installed by the City with the support of Effort Trust, the Cullen family, the Kiwanis Club of St. Catharines and The Valhalla Project Niagara.
A labyrinth (sometimes referred to as a healing garden) is a walking path designed for meditation, mindfulness, and personal reflection. Labyrinths can be utilized by persons of all abilities, to reduce stress and provide gentle exercise. A labyrinth can also play a role in treating mental health conditions and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The labyrinth is part of the overall plans to enhance Fairview Park through the Fairview Park Community Vision. As part of the community vision, public consultation will provide guidance for future park investment and development as well as consider the preservation and protection of environmental and archaeological resources.
