The City of St. Catharines' Sign By-laws govern the use of sign permits and ensure that signs in the city meet the standards as set out in the Ontario Building Code, our zoning by-laws and other applicable legislation.
You can report an issue around a Sign By-law infraction online.
Once we receive the report, an inspector will make a site visit to determine if the infraction is valid. If so, we will send a letter to the sign owner detailing the infraction, what is required for by-law compliance and the timeline for the modifications to be complete.
Anyone who does not comply with the notice may be subject to legal action.
Portable signs that are found to be in non-compliance may be towed at the owner's expense. Any signs placed illegally on City property are considered litter and will be removed, with their components recycled or sent to the landfill.
