The St. Catharines Property Standards Committee conducts and hears public appeals of property standards orders that have been issued under the Ontario Building Code and the City's Property Standards By-law. After hearing an appeal, the committee has the power to confirm, modify or rescind the order, demolish or repair, or extend time for complying with an order.
The Property Standards Appeal Committee hears appeals of the property standards order in a fair manner, keeping in mind the goal of ensuring properties and buildings in the City of St. Catharines are safe and remain in a state of general upkeep.
To ensure properties and buildings in the City of St. Catharines are safe and remain in a state of general upkeep.
The Property Standards By-law regulates items of properties' and buildings' safety and general upkeep. Inspectors investigate and determine if the by-law has been violated. If the property does not conform to the by-law, a property standards order is issued to the property's owner. If an owner disagrees with the order or a portion of the order, they may appeal to the Property Standards Committee.
The Property Standards Committee meets up to three times per year. View our committee meeting calendar for upcoming meeting dates.
Membership lasts for the duration of City Council's term (four years) or as determined by Council. Members shall observe the City's Code of Conduct and harassment policies and make every effort to attend all meetings.
