If you're setting up a sign in the City of St. Catharines, you must apply for a permit.

How to apply for a permit

Please send a completed Sign or Swimming Pool Enclosure Permit application to Planning and Building Services and include the applicable fees and two sets of complete construction drawings that are drawn to scale. Once we've issued your permit, you'll need to schedule inspections, which are outlined on the permit, at least 48 hours in advance.

Permits ensure that signs within the city meet Ontario Building Code standards as well as our zoning and sign by-laws.

You must apply for a permit if you're going to set up:

billboard signs
ground signs
pole signs
portable signs - owner's permission, a site plan and, if the sign is on a regional road, approval from Niagara Region will also be required
signs on utility poles
wall signs
