The City of St. Catharines collects property taxes from property owners to finance community services such as roads upkeep, park maintenance, infrastructure improvements, delivery of programs and more. Tax rates are set by City Council each year and are determined by balancing the needs for programs, infrastructure, and community services with the financial needs of the corporation.
We are also responsible for collecting regional and school board taxes each year, which fund regional and school board programs and services. However, we are not involved in the process of determining regional and school board tax rates.
