The nomination period for the 2022 municipal and school board election opens on May 2, and St. Catharines is ready to welcome would-be candidates to City Hall to file nominations.
Beginning Monday, prospective candidates for the positions of Mayor, City Councillor, Regional Councillor, or School Board Trustee can attend City Hall to file their nomination paperwork with the City Clerk.
To minimize wait times and ensure efficiency, prospective candidates are encouraged to book an appointment using the online booking system at stcatharines.ca/appointments. Appointments can also be booked by calling 905.688.5600.
“We’re excited to launch this campaign period and welcome the members of our community seeking to run for election or register as a third-party advertiser to City Hall,” said Bonnie Nistico-Dunk, City Clerk. “The filing process can take up to 45 minutes, so we are asking potential candidates and advertisers book an appointment to help that process run smoothly for everyone.”
Supporting documentation and completed paperwork is required to file a nomination, alongside a filing fee: $100 for Councillor and School Board Trustee, and $200 for Mayor. Prospective candidates can find a full list of required documentation and forms at stcatharines.ca/elections.
Registration for third-party advertisers also opens on May 2. Third parties looking to register are also asked to make an appointment prior to attending City Hall and to fill out the necessary paperwork before their appointment.
Prospective candidates have until Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. to file a nomination, and prospective third-party advertisers must register prior to Oct. 21.
