Residents who wish to contribute positively to their communities through various events and activities can apply for up to $1,500 in funding to support their initiatives beginning this Monday, July 1.
There will be two intake periods for the Neighbourhood Micro Grants pilot program. One for summer / fall that will open on Monday, and a second one for winter / spring set to begin on Jan. 1, 2025. Successful applicants must be prepared to secure any necessary park permits, facility rentals, and insurance.
"These micro-grants will provide residents with the resources they need to create meaningful and impactful activities in St. Catharines,” said Kaylea Cassano, the City’s Community Initiatives Specialist. "It’s an excellent opportunity for residents to showcase their creativity and contribute positively to the vibrancy of our city."
The pilot project is designed to support community projects and events that will enhance the quality of life in St. Catharines’ neighbourhoods. Projects can range from community festivals to clothing swaps, to information sessions on how to do taxes or a community clean-up event.
Examples of eligible expenses are park permits, insurance, project materials and supplies. Funding will not be approved for items such as presenter honourariums, donations to charities, or any capital costs.
Resident-led groups consisting of at least three members (from different households) are welcome to apply. Events and activities must be open and free to both residents and non-residents and take place in accessible public spaces or neighbourhood parks. Projects can be one-time events or a series of events completed within one month. Examples include community workshops, festivals, educational sessions, and recreational activities that promote social connections and community development.
Following the event, applicants will be asked to complete a final report, detailing the outcome of the event, the number of participants, and project expenses including receipts. The release of funds is contingent on the submission and approval of the final report.
