Property taxpayers have received their initial tax bills for 2024 and the first payment for the year is due on Feb. 29.
Any property owners who have not received their bill should contact Citizens First at 905.688.5600 or CitizensFirst@stcatharines.ca.
Bills are due four times a year – Feb. 29, April 30, June 28 and Sept. 27 – and the City offers several payment options. Taxpayers can register for a 10- or 12-month pre-authorized payment plan, allowing a year’s worth of taxes to spread across several monthly payments or a pre-authorized instalment plan where payments are automatically withdrawn, saving a possible missed due date or late payment charge.
Taxpayers are encouraged to use the City’s recently launched online payment system at stcatharines.ca/PayOnline. Property owners are encouraged to make payments several days ahead of the due date to ensure they are received on time.
Payments can still be made through online banking, at banks, other financial institutions, or in person from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, where cash, cheques, and debit are accepted.
Cheques can also be left in the deposit box at the James Street entrance at City Hall or mailed to Citizens First at the City of St. Catharines, 50 Church St., PO Box 3012, St. Catharines ON, L2R 7C2.
Payments received after 4:30 p.m. on instalment due dates will be subject to a 1.25 per cent late payment charge on the first day of default and the first day of each calendar month until settled.
