After a year’s hiatus the bleat of sheep, the crow of roosters and the other familiar sounds of animals have returned to Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm.
Animals returned to the popular Read Road attraction today, breathing life into the facility that was shuttered in 2020 in response to COVID-19. Going forward the farm will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
Guests are reminded to maintain physical distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“Happy Rolph’s holds such a special place in the heart of this community, we appreciate the patience the community has demonstrated while we worked on a way to safely return animals and welcome the public back,” said Director of Municipal Works Darrell Smith.
Work is currently ongoing to complete the installation of a new playground at the location. Due to a fire at one of the equipment supplier’s production facilities, completion of the playground has been delayed. Initially the playground was scheduled to be completed by the end of May or early June. In early May a fire at Playworld’s manufacturing facility halted production of the playground’s tractor feature. Until that feature is installed the rubber play surface cannot be put down allowing the playground to open.
At this time, the City is working to ascertain an exact timeline for Playworld to provide the parts. The manufacturer is making every effort to expedite the order once production resumes.
In the meantime, the playground will be completed without the tractor feature, and is scheduled to reopen at the end of June. The tractor will be installed later when the equipment has been acquired.
Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm is located at 650 Read Rd.
