City Council returned to full complement Monday night with the swearing in of Robin McPherson as the City Councillor representing Ward 4.
McPherson was sworn in during Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting of City Council to fill the St. Patrick’s Ward seat left vacant with the departure of Coun. Mat Siscoe. Following the death of St. Catharines Regional Councillor Sandie Bellows in October, St. Catharines City Council recommended the appointment of then City Councillor Siscoe to the Regional Council seat vacated by Bellows.
Given the relatively short nine months left in the term, Siscoe was chosen for his experience, allowing him to quickly engage on Regional issues. Siscoe was in the midst of his third City Council term, sat as the City’s Budget Standing Committee Chair, and is the current chair of the Region’s Linking Niagara Transit Committee.
“Thank you to Robin for her commitment and enthusiasm to serve the St. Patrick’s Ward. She has a keen interest in the continued success of our downtown, the City’s vibrant arts and culture scene, and protecting our community’s heritage. Combined with her experience on the board of the St. Catharines Downtown Association, and her many years serving on advisory committees for the City, I know she will serve her Ward – and all St. Catharines residents – well at the Council table,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik.
With Siscoe moving up to the Region his Ward 4 City Council seat was left vacant. With that seat vacant, McPherson, who came in third for the Ward 4 City Council seat in the 2018 Municipal election, was identified to fill the position.
McPherson brings with her a long track record of community involvement. McPherson has served recently on the City’s Committee of Adjustment and as a chairperson for the St. Catharines Downtown Association. In the past she has volunteered on the City’s Downtown Development and Revitalization Committee, Heritage Advisory Committee and Heritage Permit Advisory Committee.
