The City’s vibrant and growing arts scene will shine in the spotlight over the coming weeks, with no shortage of experiences to enjoy during Culture Days.
The City is gearing up to present more than 100 arts and culture activities as part of Culture Days, the annual nation-wide event that invites the public to participate in and contribute to the cultural landscapes of Canadian communities. For the second year in a row, Culture Days is expanding its traditional weekend-long format to fill an entire month – this year running from September 24 to October 24.
The City of St. Catharines has teamed up with the arts and culture community to offer a wide variety of in-person activities (in compliance with health protocols), including sculpture, painting, mixed media and drawing workshops. There is also a robust lineup of engaging virtual experiences, including digital photo editing, traditional animation, drama, and art-making workshops.
The City of St. Catharines Annual Juried exhibit kicks off the month of Culture Days activities with a virtual opening reception on Friday, September 24 at 5 p.m., by livestream at www.stcatharines.ca/youtube. In “The Art of Resilience”, Niagara-based artists share their insights on how the community has come together, demonstrated resilience and adapted through a year of change and challenge brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other Culture Days highlights include:
“We are so fortunate to have a wealth of experiences when it comes to Culture Days activities. The sheer breadth of free family-friendly and diverse cultural offerings means that there’s something for everyone. Many of the local artists and organizations participating are supported with micro-grants from the St. Catharines Culture Investment Program,” said the City’s Culture Supervisor Noora Rizvi. “This builds on the momentum of our 2020 event, when Culture Days Canada recognized St. Catharines as the No. 1 community for delivering the most arts and culture experiences.”
