Nominations are now open for the City’s annual celebration of the creative individuals who bolster the community’s cultural landscape, and those who support them.
Online nominations are being accepted for the 2021 St. Catharines Arts Awards. The City of St. Catharines is looking to the public for help in celebrating the arts community through nominations of artists and those who champion them. Local artists, residents, businesses, volunteers, patrons and organizations are eligible to be nominated for awards in the following categories:
• Arts in Education
• Emerging Artist
• Established Artist
• Making a Difference
• Patron of the Arts
“It’s no secret that St. Catharines boasts an arts community that many larger communities would be envious of, these artists, and the cultural growth they drive, enhance the quality of life for all residents by beautifying our city, providing insight into our lives and providing endless entertainment,” said Acting Supervisor of Cultural Services Kathleen Powell, adding, “the annual arts awards are just one of many ways we celebrate excellence in arts and culture and celebrate cultural industries for their contribution in enhancing the lives of our residents.”
Since their start in 2005, the Arts Awards have celebrated St. Catharines' artists and cultural industries, honoured cultural leaders and their achievements, and encouraged support for the arts sector. Arts Award recipients reflect St. Catharines' breadth of talent and commitment to the arts.
This year’s awards will be held in the fall of 2021. The exact format of the annual celebration of arts is still being considered, keeping in mind the limitations COVID-19 restrictions may play in their delivery.
Nominations close at 4 p.m. on April 1, 2021.
