A holiday tradition is set to make its return, after going virtual for the past two years.
The City of St. Catharines presents the 32nd annual Civic Christmas Carol Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 99 Ontario St. The event, which was last held in person in 2019, will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m., with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free. Monetary donations will be accepted on behalf of Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.
The concert, produced by David Sisler, will feature Ross Stretton conducting this year’s massed choirs from Laura Secord Secondary School and Harriet Tubman Public School. Lesley Kingham will be the organist and the St. Catharines Civic Brass Ensemble will also be performing. This year’s guest speaker, offering his perspective on Christmas, will be Mayor Mat Siscoe.
“I am excited to not only welcome the community back to usher in the season at the Civic Christmas Carol Concert in person, but to also share a message as part of the program. Christmas is one of the biggest holiday celebrations for my family,” said Mayor Siscoe. “This is an important holiday tradition – one that attracts a large response from the community, who fills the church each year to enjoy the incredible performances. It also serves as a long-standing fundraiser for Community Care that has raised in excess of $100,000 since it was started.”
For those who are unable to attend the event in person, YourTV Niagara, which broadcast the past two years’ concerts due to gathering restrictions, will be airing the concert on Friday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. It will also be available through YourTV’s video-on-demand channel for YourTV subscribers to watch anytime, at no cost.
