As a new school year begins, the City of St. Catharines would like to remind residents that dropping off and picking up students will cause a lot of traffic congestion. Illegally stopped or parked cars are a safety risk as they make it hard for other drivers to see pedestrians, particularly children, crossing the street.
As a reminder, if you are dropping a student off at school, please:
- Use the school’s designated drop-off area
- Keep clear of driveways, entrance ways and bus stops
- Do not stop in no stopping areas
- Do not park in no parking areas
- Do not obstruct sidewalks, crosswalks, or fire routes
Officers who patrol school areas will enforce parking regulations, ticketing illegally stopped or parked vehicles. Parking tickets may be issued at the time of the violation or may be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Parking Penalties:
- Stopping in a no stopping zone, even momentarily, could result in a $48 ticket.
- Parking in a no parking zone, even if the vehicle is occupied, could result in a $30 ticket.
- Stopping or parking in a fire route could result in a $80 ticket.
Students are encouraged to take the buses they are pre-registered for or utilize active transportation such as biking or walking.
