The City of St. Catharines is looking for resident feedback on an Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) that will guide the growth of physical and social infrastructure to support walking, cycling, wheeling and rolling within the City.
With a focus on community engagement and leveraging existing active transportation infrastructure, the ATMP will play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and expanding the City's active transportation network. By incorporating technical analysis, best practices, and valuable insights from the St. Catharines community, the plan will address the needs and aspirations of residents, making active transportation a viable choice for all.
"The Active Transportation Master Plan is a testament to our commitment to creating a safer and more sustainable city,” says Brian Applebee, manager of Transportation Services. “By investing in an inclusive active transportation infrastructure and engaging our community, we are facilitating a healthier, more connected St. Catharines that prioritizes the active transportation needs for users of all ages and abilities."
Key goals of the ATMP include:
The ATMP project will unfold through five phases including: project initiation with a complete background review; the development of a comprehensive active transportation network; policy, framework and program creation; implementing the plan itself, and then monitoring and reporting back.
The City asks residents to actively participate in shaping the ATMP. Citizens are invited to learn more about the project and provide input at the ATMP booth at the Davids and DeLaat Downtown Block Party on July 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other opportunities for input include responding to the public survey, utilizing the mapping tool to share local knowledge, and subscribing to the project webpage for regular updates at stcatharines.ca/ATMP.
