The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre has got parents covered when it comes to keeping young minds active and engaged over the holiday break.
Holiday programming at the museum will move online this year, with three different, discovery-based, virtual clubs engaging children in high-energy learning and exploration at home.
Children aged 5 to 7 can register for the Jr. Engineers Club to learn all about transportation and Welland Canal operations with movement-based activities and crafts.
For the curious minds of slightly older children, aged 8 and up, the museum is offering a Museum Detectives Club, challenging kids to hone their investigative techniques with activities that will see them seeking out clues and making inquiries.
Children aged 10 and up will have the chance to track an evil, time-travelling society trying to erase a famous St. Catharines violinist from history with the History Hunters Club.
“These are all fantastic opportunities to keep kids’ minds engaged and learning during the school break while keeping them entertained,” said Supervisor of Historical Services Kathleen Powell.
The Museum is offering each club twice during holiday break. Children can be registered either for the first block, running from Dec. 21 to 23, or the second block, from Dec. 28 to 30.
Led by the museum’s programing staff, each club will meet virtually for a one-hour session per day over the course of three days. Jr. Engineers will meet from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Museum Detectives from 11 a.m. to noon; and History Hunters from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Pre-registration is required to participate. Once registered, families will be invited to pick-up a club kit, containing materials and supplies for participation, from the museum for each registered child.
St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre virtual holiday programming is open by donation. A minimum of $10 per child is encouraged. For more information visit www.stcatharines.ca/MuseumEvents.
