Aquatics

Are you ready to make a splash this summer? Join our Aquatics team as a lifeguard or swimming instructor and help ensure a safe and fun experience for all.

Position types include:

Head Lifeguard

Assist in supervising aquatic staff and ensuring safe, diverse aquatic programs in collaboration with the Recreation Assistant Lead and Aquatics Coordinators. Maintain a service-minded attitude, focusing on problem-solving and overseeing daily pool deck operations. 

Lifeguards

Ensure participant safety, prevent accidents, and respond to emergencies. Maintain cleanliness and promote effective public relations with a polite and helpful attitude. 

Swimming Instructor

Implement Lifesaving Society and Department programs safely and enjoyably, demonstrating excellent class control and customer service.  

Additional Details 

• Commitment: May 15, 2025, to September 2, 2025
• Hours: 24-35 hours per week; hours vary by pool and position type
• Hourly Pay Rate: Lifeguard $22.91; Instructor $24.93
• Work Locations: Assigned to one of three of St. Catharines outdoor pools.
  

 Required Certifications (valid for 2 years) 

• National Lifeguard certification, Lifesaving Society
• Swim Instructor certification, Lifesaving Society
• Lifesaving Instructor certification, Lifesaving Society.
• Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (valid for 3 years)
• HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Childhood Development
• Aquatics Supervisory Course, Lifesaving Society (Head Guards)

Candidates must be at least 15 years old. A vulnerable sector check must be completed for anyone aged 20 and older.

Green Spaces

(Formerly Maintenance Student)

Do you have a green thumb and a knack for nurturing nature? Join our Green Spaces team this summer and help beautify our community while gaining invaluable hands-on experience! We have opportunities for students to join our maintenance team.

As a summer student, you will be assigned to one of the following departments: Horticulture, Sports Parks, or Cemetery Operations. Below are the key details of the role:

Additional Details:

• Commitment: Work from May 1, 2025, through the end of August 2025

• Hours: 40 hours per week with a consistent weekly schedule

• Physical Ability: Must be able to lift and carry materials as required and work in outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Work Location: Various

Requirements:

• Must be a post-secondary college or university student enrolled in studies for Fall 2025

• Safety boots are required (to be purchased by the candidate)

Historical Services

Are you a history buff? We are looking for passionate students to join our Historical Services department for the 2025 summer season. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in operations, educational programming, and heritage site management at the St. Catharines Museum, Morningstar Mill, or the Lakeside Park Carousel. Position types include:

Historical Services Collections Assistant

• Responsibilities: Maintain collection records, organize artefacts, conduct research, and manage digital images.
• Requirements: Enrolled in studies related to Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, Library Studies, or History. Digital photography and editing skills are an asset.

Historical Services Program Assistant

• Responsibilities: Plan and deliver educational programmes, organize summer events, and enhance education kits.
• Requirements: Enrolled in studies related to education, arts, history, or Historical Services studies, with skills in training, facilitation, or event planning.

• Responsibilities: Interpret and provide tours at the Morningstar Mill, assist with cataloguing, and support event planning.
• Requirements: Enrolled in studies related to Historical Services studies or history, with strong organizational and communication skills. A valid driver’s licence is highly recommended as there is no public transit to the Mill.

• Responsibilities: Ensure a safe and enjoyable carousel experience, assist with special events and promotions, handle maintenance and operations, manage cash duties, and respond to incidents. Participate in training sessions.
• Requirements: Standard First Aid and CPR certification; cash handling and customer service skills; shift availability; and CSA-approved safety footwear.

• Commitment: Work from mid-May through September 2025. Some opportunities exist for additional work on weekends in September and October.
• Hours: 35 hours per week with a consistent schedule.
• Work Locations: St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, Morningstar Mill, and Lakeside Park Carousel.
