Residents of the Yates Street neighbourhood and those downwind are being advised to shelter in place due to the presence of smoke from a fire at 30 Ontario St.
St. Catharines Fire Services were called to the fire at 5:23 a.m. on July 12. The fire was well advanced on arrival and all available resources have been deployed to the scene. All six fire stations and eight St. Catharines emergency vehicles are on scene, with both Thorold and Pelham providing mutual aid in the form of additional aerial trucks.

As a safety precaution gas has been shut off in the area. With multiple fire hydrants being utilized residents in the area may notice dirty water at their taps for the duration of firefighting efforts.
Municipal Works crews are on scene to manage and capture runoff water from the firefighting effort to protect watercourses and the environment.
Crews are actively monitoring nearby areas and buildings to ensure the fire is contained. Work continues to assess any risk of structural collapse and prevent any risks to public safety.
