The City of St. Catharines is recognizing those who put the garden in Garden City.
Today the City announced the winners of its annual Trillium Awards, recognizing those who go above and beyond with their properties and gardens, beautifying the community. Two Civic Beautification Awards were granted to properties in each ward of the City, alongside the Mayor’s Award for the best overall property; a Community Choice Award selected via an online vote; and the Green Leader Award, recognizing environmentally friendly beautification efforts.
“There is no shortage of beautiful properties in our city, and this is our way of recognizing the effort that goes into them and to say thanks for adding vibrance and life to our streets,” said Eric Lamothe, Community, Culture and Recreation Services manager of business planning and strategic services.
The 2021 Mayor’s Award went to Bev Wright and Rick Hesp for their property at 301 Queenston St.
“Congratulations to this year’s Trillium Award recipients, including the Mayor’s Award recipients – Bev Wright and Rick Hesp,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik. “We have so many residents and volunteers doing amazing things to beautify St. Catharines. They are helping our neighbourhoods come alive, and our winners will hopefully inspire others to find unique and new ways to green our community.”
The Green Leader Award went to the Fitzgerald Neighbours community group for their efforts in building and maintaining a community and pollinator garden at Catherine Street Park.
