The City of St. Catharines is excited to announce the much-anticipated grand reopening of Valleyview Park, the latest project to be unveiled as part of the City’s Parks Renewal Plan.
The $469,999 investment for the 20 Ker St. neighbourhood park in the Merritton Ward includes a replacement of the play structure and new multi-use courts for tennis, basketball, and ball hockey play. Accessibility upgrades feature new walkways and park benches. Landscape upgrades include new trees. Drainage improvements were also made.
The nearly one-hectare Valleyview Park is the latest City park to undergo renewal, following the St. Patrick’s Park reopening in June. Tomorrow, the City will celebrate the renewal of Louis Avenue Park, which features a new multi-use court for basketball and ball hockey, and accessible sidewalks and benches.
“Neighbourhood parks are important spaces for our residents to play, gather, socialize and enjoy the outdoors,” said Eric Lamothe, City Manager, Community Initiatives and Partnerships. “These renewal projects reflect the City’s vision and commitment to making our parks even more enjoyable, accessible, inclusive, safe places for users of all ages and abilities for generations to come.”
The City’s Parks Renewal Plan and its investments will ensure St. Catharines’ parks reflect “The City Where Everybody Can Play.”
The City’s commitment to parks’ accessibility features inclusive playground design including access to playgrounds, and new multi-use courts, and accessible walkways and park benches.
