There’s a neighbourhood in the city where ideas and dreams meet craftmanship and innovation to become reality, and now residents can check it out virtually or in person.
The City of St. Catharines is partnering with home design, construction, retail and manufacturing businesses to launch the Design District, a one-stop destination for design, building and renovation needs in the city. Conveniently located next to the QEW, the Design District encompasses a cluster of businesses spanning the area between Welland Avenue, Cushman Road, Dieppe Road and Eastchester Avenue. The well-established area of the city is known for its home and design-related businesses.
From lighting to flooring, plumbing to heating and cooling, furnishings to appliances, the Design District features a wide-ranging collection of local businesses with showrooms and galleries offering products, services and expertise. With interior designers, product specialists and trade experts, the Design District offers a unique, easy-to-find experience for those looking to create the home of their dreams.
“This part of our city has had a long-standing reputation for producing award-winning design and home building and improvement businesses,” said Director of Economic Development and Government Relations Brian York. “By creating the Design District, we are recognizing its significance to our local economy while highlighting it as a destination to attract visitors seeking high quality artisans and products sold by local businesses.”
As a part of the launch, new Design District street signs have been erected to identify the district along with a new website www.designdistrictstc.ca to drive traffic to businesses in the area and help promote the many services and products offered online and through social media. Ranging from home design businesses and services, to retailers, the website will be a resource for consumers seeking home solutions.
“Building or renovating your home can often be a difficult task when trying to find the right contractor or designer,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik. “The Design District is aimed at the next generation of consumers who research online before making their purchases while providing a digital platform for local businesses to promote the incredible talent and expertise they have to offer. The Design District is an important way to support and promote local businesses while highlighting a historically important part of our city’s economy.”
