City launches survey on community climate action

The City of St. Catharines is looking to collect more information on what community members are doing in their day to day lives that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and be more resilient to a changing climate. 

The City’s first Community Climate Action survey was launched on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, and is now available on EngageSTC. 

There are three parts to the survey. The first section focuses on participant demographics and personal priorities related to climate change. The second section focuses on what everyday actions the respondent (or their household) is currently doing to help reduce emissions. The third section is centred on the level of support for the new community wide greenhouse gas target, as well as prioritization of City-led initiatives. 

The City’s community wide goal is to be net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The goal of a net zero target is to balance the amount of greenhouse gases produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. 

“Feedback from the Community Climate Action survey will provide valuable insight on the reasons and ways people are taking actions to be more environmentally friendly and act on climate change,” said Climate Change Adaptation Coordinator, Olivia Groff. “Survey results will also provide information regarding improvements the City can make to assist residents.” 

The survey will be available until April 8, 2024. It’s anticipated a summary of the results will be made available this spring.
