The City of St. Catharines will recognize those who share their creative talents and support to strengthen the community’s vibrant cultural landscape.
The St. Catharines Arts Awards will return for another year on Sunday, Nov. 21, in a virtual format, at 6 p.m. The awards will be streamed via presenting partner FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre’s (PAC) Facebook and YouTube pages.
The St. Catharines Arts Awards recognize and celebrate excellence in all areas of artistic creation. The Arts Awards increase the visibility of St. Catharines’ artists and cultural industries, honour cultural leaders and their achievements, and cultivate financial and volunteer support for the arts sector. Awards include Arts in Education, Emerging Artist, Established Artist, Making a Difference, Jury’s Pick and Patron of the Arts.
“It’s no secret we are seeing an explosion of arts and culture in our city, and it is thanks to the efforts of the creative talent in the community. These individuals dedicate their time and skills to help us understand the world around us, connect with each other and enrich the lives of residents. The awards are our way of thanking them for their contributions in making St. Catharines a city that rivals much larger communities with its cultural landscape,” said Cultural Services supervisor Noora Rizvi.
Ahead of awards night the City is announcing one of the award winners. Specifically, arts supporter and philanthropist Janet Partridge, is being honoured with the Patron of the Arts Award recognizing a recipient that has made a meaningful contribution to the arts.
“Janet has contributed so much to the arts, she and her family have been cornerstones of the artistic community with a broad range of support to organizations such as Chorus Niagara and arts assets such as the PAC,” said Rizvi.
This year’s awards will be hosted by 2020 award winners Danny Custodio, Juliet Dunn, Erica Sherwood and Candice Turner Smith.
Beyond the announcement of award winners, the event will feature musical performances on the Partridge Hall stage from Peter Shea, Sarah Jerrom, Kathryn Sinopoli, Chorus Niagara and Diana McAdorey.
