Residents interested in learning how to trace their genealogy and organize their family stories will gain some useful knowledge and tools at a two-day St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre and St. Catharines Public Library workshop in March.
The museum, in partnership with the library, present the Family History Workshop on Saturday, March 2 at the library’s central branch and on Saturday, March 16 at the museum, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This workshop series introduces participants to concepts related to gathering, organizing, recording, and preserving their family’s story for future generations.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities featuring objects from the City’s museum collection.

Participants are asked to bring to the workshop one folder or box of their family records and photographs.
“The museum’s Family History Workshop is a great introduction for anyone who would like to learn how to preserve their own family’s important items,” said Kathleen Powell, supervisor of historical services / curator. “We are pleased to be able to partner with the St. Catharines Public Library to help people get started on their journey to research and care for their family’s story.”
Cost is $55 per person plus HST for both days. Participants should be prepared to attend the full workshop series. Pre-registration is required.
