A project that has been months in the making has been completed in downtown St. Catharines.
There is a new lighting canopy, spanning along St. Paul Street from William Street to Geneva Street. This new lighting installation, which was completed between July and August 2023, enhances the overall visitor experience and visibility of the City’s downtown by night, helping to enhance public safety and promote additional foot traffic to local businesses.
“Whether you are downtown to enjoy a live sporting event, concert, theatre performance, or to enjoy dinner or a glass of wine at one of our many great restaurants, this lighting will add to your experience,” said St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe. “Thank you to the Tourism Partnership of Niagara and Alectra Utilities for their support in lighting up our downtown.”
“The Tourism Partnership of Niagara (TPN) is delighted to support the downtown St. Catharines illumination project,” said TPN Marketing Manager Matthias Koster. “We are confident that this innovative undertaking will not only light up streets but also invigorate the essence of the downtown core, attracting both residents and visitors, providing them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere that downtown St. Catharines has to offer.”
This new lighting installation features over 900 LED string lights mounted on custom made brackets to provide clearance for all types of vehicles and is intended to be in operation year-round.
“Decorative lighting in urban settings creates a warm ambiance on city streets, and a sense of excitement. Alectra is very pleased with this lighting installation and it’s a perfect addition to this vibrant area of St. Catharines,” said Alectra President and CEO Brian Bentz.
