St. Catharines Fire Services is challenging residents to learn the sounds of fire safety as Fire Prevention Week returns for another year from Oct. 3 to 9.
Mindful of COVID-19 restrictions Fire Services is offering up both in-person and digital opportunities for residents to participate in this year’s theme: Know the Sounds of Fire Safety.
Be it the chirp of an alarm indicating a low battery, or the full ring of a carbon monoxide alarm indicating the need to evacuate, residents will have several opportunities to participate.
“We want to engage residents where they are, and ensure they know what to listen for when it comes to fire safety, most notably the need to get out, stay out and call 911 in the instance of an alarm sounding,” said Fire Chief Jeff McCormick.
Firefighters will be visiting select schools throughout the week to conduct fire drills for students so they know what to do when an alarm sounds.
The general public will have the opportunity to meet in person with fire crews to ask questions and learn more about fire safety on Oct. 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pen Centre, and on Oct. 9 at RONA from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Those wishing to experience Fire Prevention Week from the comfort of home can tune into City social media channels throughout the week for lessons on the sounds of fire safety from the various divisions of St. Catharines Fire Services including suppression, communications, prevention and training.
