The City of St. Catharines is inviting the community to help shape the future of Fairview Park and neighbouring John Page Park.
The City is launching online engagement for the Fairview Park Community Vision, a project which will seek input on potential park improvements that will help inform a master plan for the area – a 6.7-acre property which not only encompasses both the former Fairview Golf and Mini-Putt lands (commonly referred to as Fairview Park) and neighbouring John Page Park. The master plan will inform future decision-making on park renewal and investment.
“We’re looking forward to hearing from the community on what they envision for this large public space in the middle of the city that has so much potential,” said Phil Cristi, director of Community, Recreation and Culture Services. “John Page Park has been a destination for neighbourhood families with its playground and open green space, while also representing the community’s history with its remnants of the Third Welland Canal. And over the last year or so we’ve seen growing use of Fairview Park with the addition of the labyrinth and hard-surfaced trail connections. We anticipate both parks will see an increase in users as development in the surrounding area intensifies.”
To help kick off the engagement for the master plan, an online survey has launched on EngageSTC to get a sense of the community’s use of the park and what features they would like to see in the future. The page will also be updated throughout the community vision process, and engagement will continue throughout the creation of a draft master plan. The draft, once completed, will then be presented to Council for approval, reflecting the community’s vision for the park and including a park strategy and conceptual design layout.
“We really want to hear from residents throughout this process – so help plan your park by telling us what you enjoy about the park experience now, and how you would like to use the parkland in the future,” said Cristi.
