Interested in exploring your family history and preserving your stories for generations to come? Learn how to unlock your family history this spring at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre.
The Family History Workshop, presented in partnership with the Mayholme Foundation Genealogical and Historical Research Centre, offers an engaging hands-on tutorial on specific resources, tools, and knowledge participants can use to organize, preserve, and share their personal family histories.
Over two Saturdays in April, participants will learn tips, tools, resources and skills from professional genealogists and historians they can use to organize and preserve family photographs and records, care for family heirlooms, and record family stories from oral histories, interviews, and documents.
Topics include how to: manage projects, use research tools such as Ancestry and MyHeritage, access local history research materials, decide what to keep and let go, package stories for family and friends and more.
Day One for the next Family History Workshop is set for Saturday, April 5 at the Mayholme Foundation Genealogical and Historical Research Centre (525 Ontario St.). Day Two takes place at the museum Saturday, April 12 (1932 Welland Canals Pkwy). Both days run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration for the two-day workshop is $56.65. Participants receive a Family History Workshop workbook and starter kit with equipment, resources, and expert advice to begin their projects.
