Mayor Siscoe is set to host a townhall meeting at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre on October 2nd, starting from 5:30pm and concluding at 7:30pm, at Partridge Hall. The goal of this event is to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and to create a platform for individuals to express their perspectives and concerns directly to the Mayor.
"In a time where inclusivity and diversity are increasingly recognized as essential components of a thriving community, I am looking forward to engaging in meaningful conversations with members of equity-deserving groups to gain insight into the pressing issues that impact individuals and groups at the local level," said Mayor Mat Siscoe.
The event's format will provide individuals the chance to approach the microphone and express their thoughts for a duration of 5 minutes per turn. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions or voice their issues to the Mayor within an open and public environment to allow for a more interactive and engaging session where community members can actively participate and engage with the Mayor directly.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Townhall is an essential component of the City of St. Catharines' broader commitment to DEI), as outlined in a motion passed by City Council on April 17, 2023.
The motion affirmed the City's dedication to embracing and celebrating its diverse population and addressing challenges such as racism and discrimination by working to create an environment of equality for all people, regardless of various identities and backgrounds, and to foster a community that is supportive, and welcoming.
The DEI Townhall reflects this commitment by providing a forum for residents to share their lived experience, furthering the City’s goals of creating a community where members feel empowered and valued and ensuring that the principles established in the motion are actively implemented in our community and municipal operations.
Details on the DEI Townhall can be found at www.stcatharines.ca/mayorsDEItownhall. Pre-registration is not required however, participants are expected to adhere to a code of conduct while at the venue.
The Mayor is set to unveil a series of Townhalls dedicated to each Ward's residents. Keep an eye out for more details on this initiative.
The event will not be available for virtual viewing.
