The City of St. Catharines is replacing existing watermains on Ontario Street (R.R. #42) from Carlton Street to approximately 60m north of Hiscott Street, beginning in spring 2024. Construction is expected to last approximately seven months.
The City is committed to improving its aging water and sewer infrastructure.
Replacement of existing watermains is necessary to improve the water service infrastructure and to reduce water interruptions due to reduced reliability and increased maintenance needs of existing watermains. This section of Ontario Street is an arterial commercial corridor, and the existing watermains have reached the end of their useful life.
This project has been categorized as a Schedule A+ under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Guidelines of the Municipal Engineers Association (M.E.A.).
