Emergency managers from all 12 lower tier municipalities and the Niagara Region launched an emergency preparedness short film this year for Emergency Preparedness Week.
Throughout this week, May 7 to 13, as part of the national awareness campaign, municipalities across Niagara will share important information to educate the community about potential hazards and encourage individuals and families to take action to better prepare themselves for all emergencies.
“I want to take a moment this Emergency Preparedness Week to remind the citizens of the City of St. Catharines to create a plan and build an emergency kit for both your home and your car. I’d also like to thank our partners for sharing this important messaging. The safety of our residents is paramount, and we encourage each of them to be prepared for every eventuality,” said Mayor Mat Siscoe.
The film titled Get Prepared Niagara is an opportunity for residents to focus on their and their family's safety and wellbeing. Also, to be better prepared, residents are encouraged to:
“I call everyone to action, as every individual contributes to the safety and resilience of a community. That is why I encourage everyone to make a plan, build a kit and stay informed,” said Community Emergency Management Coordinator Judy Green.
This year the Emergency Preparedness Week campaign is possible with the support of local municipalities, Niagara Regional Fire Chiefs Association and Niagara Region Emergency Management, as well as Canadian Tire, Enbridge and FreshCo.
