The City of St. Catharines is pleased to announce the winners of its annual Trillium Awards.
The Trillium Awards recognize property owners who create luscious landscapes using their front yards and gardens to beautify their community. A total of 15 awards are presented each year, including Civic Beautification Awards granted in each ward, the Community Choice Award selected through an online vote, and a Green Leader Award, recognizing environmentally friendly yards. Additionally, the Mayor’s Award was presented to the top garden out of all of the nominations.
“Congratulations to this year’s Trillium Award recipients for their incredible efforts to help beautify St. Catharines,” said St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe. “We have so many enthusiastic gardeners that help make our neighbourhoods feel alive and contribute to the greening of our city. Thanks to their contributions, we all get to enjoy the many beautiful and vibrant neighbourhoods across our city.”
The 2023 Mayor’s Award was issued to Bill Wade for their property at 19 Woodcrest Drive.
The Green Leader Award was issued to Haig Neighbours because they are an active neighbourhood association that has been involved in numerous greening initiatives. They have started a community garden at 91 York Street, run community events and parties at the garden, run a “pay what you can” produce market, planted pollinator gardens and are doing an ongoing tree planting campaign in the neighbourhood, among other contributions.
The Community’s Choice Award was issued to Kate Dennison for their property at 6 Mary Street.
The following properties were recognized with Civic Beautification Awards.
St. Andrew’s Ward
Merriton Ward
St. George’s Ward

“We’d like to thank all of the residents who participated in this year’s Trillium Awards,” said Development Horticultural Technician Mike Kraft. “Everyone who takes the time to beautify their property, helps our community to be a more welcoming space. We can’t wait to see what people will come up with next year.”
