While the pandemic continues to hamper in-person events, the City plans to celebrate Canada Day by giving out 500 ‘green’ packs at a curbside pickup event on June 26.
“Our Canada Day the Green Way curbside event will enable residents to receive this eco-friendly pack by safe and efficient means, so they can celebrate Canada Day with a host of handy and fun products,” said Director of Community, Recreation and Culture Services Phil Cristi. “The City has a goal to reach 30 per cent tree canopy by 2030, so we are excited to be able to provide residents with this pack that includes tree seedlings and pollinator plants and encourage them to help us achieve our environmental goals.”
Funded with assistance from the Federal Government, the Canada Day the Green Way packs will include a white spruce seedling or red maple seedling, pollinator plants, sunflower seed bombs, reusable shopping bag, wheat straw sunglasses, wheat straw cutlery set, reusable straw set, colouring books and pencil crayons, shortbread cookies, and small Canada flags.
In order to receive a pack at the curbside pickup event, residents must register in advance via an online form. Registration will go live at 9 a.m. on Wednesday June 9 and close when the City runs out of stock.
Community members are also encouraged to upload photos of how they plan to spend their Canada Day 2021 via the Canada Day the Green Way website. These images will be used in a special St. Catharines Canada Day video premiere on Facebook on July 1.
