The City of St. Catharines is committed to maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality recreational facilities for our residents. As part of this commitment, we are undertaking a major refrigeration replacement project at Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre to ensure the long-term sustainability of the arena’s ice surfaces.
This essential project will replace aging refrigeration equipment with modern, energy-efficient technology, reducing environmental impact while ensuring the facility continues to serve athletes, recreational skaters, and community groups for years to come.
The current refrigeration system at Seymour-Hannah is reaching the end of its operational lifespan. Replacing it with a new, energy-efficient system will:
✔ Ensure Reliability – Minimize downtime and maintain high-quality ice conditions. The refrigeration replacement work will take place over 12 weeks from June to August 2025. The City is working closely with arena user groups to minimize disruptions while ensuring the work is completed efficiently.
We recognize that this project may cause some temporary adjustments to ice availability. The City is working closely with arena user groups, including minor hockey teams, figure skating clubs, and recreational leagues, to develop a schedule that minimizes disruptions.
We will keep the community informed of any changes through this webpage, social media, and direct communications with user groups.
This investment ensures Seymour-Hannah remains a premier community hub for sports and recreation. Thank you for your patience and support as we make these important upgrades.
