Residents of St. Catharines have a variety of options for how to fill their days during the Civic Holiday long weekend. Please see below for what is open, closed, and special events that are taking place.
Lakeside Park Carousel
The historic Lakeside Park Carousel will be open for its regular hours (11 a.m. until 8 p.m.) all weekend, including Aug. 7. The price remains five cents per ride or admission by donation. More information can be found at stcatharines.ca/carousel.
Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm
Families can visit with the animals at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm at 650 Read Rd. The farm allows for fun, family-friendly, free animal viewing. It is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. during the summer hours (mid-May to Labour Day). For more information, please visit stcatharines.ca/happyrolphs.
Splash pads
Splash pads will be operating on their regular hours (10 a.m. until 8 p.m.), including Aug. 7. Stop by Bogart Street Park, Catharine Street Park, Lester B. Pearson Park, and West Park for some fun in the water. For more details, please see stcatharines.ca/splashpads.
Morningstar Mill
The Morningstar Mill, located at 2714 Decew Road, will be open for its regular hours all weekend, including Aug. 7. Tours of the grist mill and Morningstar home are by donation. The Morningstar Mill site also provides access to the nearby Bruce Trail. For more information, please visit stcatharines.ca/morningstarmill.
St. Catharines Farmers Market
The St. Catharines Farmers Market will be operating from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 5. The topic at the Market Discovery Table is “Tomatoes… fruit or vegetable?”, Music in the Square will be provided by Rusty Jacob and the Community Engagement Series features the Niagara IceDogs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and CAA Niagara (The Big Food Boost – food drive) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information on events at the Market, please see stcatharines.ca/marketevents.
Garden City Golf Course
The Garden City Golf Course will be open for regular business hours on the weekend of Aug. 7. The first tee time is 7 a.m. and the final 18-hole tee time is 4:36 p.m. The course is located at 37 Lincoln Ave. More information can be found at stcatharines.ca/golf.
Parks and trails

St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre
All City of St. Catharines aquatics facilities are open for their regular operating hours. The pools Information on swimming in St. Catharines is available at stcatharines.ca/swimming.
Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre
The Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre is open for regular operating hours. Information on upcoming activities can be found on ActiveSTC.
St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre
The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre will be open for its regular hours all weekend, including Aug. 7. Explore the Museum exhibits to find out more about our city’s history, check out the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum, and spend some time watching as ships move through Lock 3 of the Welland Canal. The museum is located at 1932 Welland Canals Parkway. More information can be found at stcatharines.ca/museum.
The Film House at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre
The Film House at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre will be showing a variety of films over the weekend, including an outdoor showing of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on Fri. Aug. 4. Tickets and more information can be found online. Regular screenings of Lonely Castle in the Mirror and Barbarella on Aug. 5 and Batman & Robin and Shortcomings on Aug. 6. Tickets for this event can also be purchased online.
St. Catharines Public Library
All St. Catharines Public Library locations will be closed on Mon., Aug. 7. The Port Dalhousie Branch (23 Brock Street) will be offering a drop-in Play-Doh event between noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 5. This event is free to attend and interested patrons can reserve a spot on Eventbrite.
Closures
The following City facilities will be closed on Civic Holiday, Mon. Aug. 7, 2023:
- City Hall
- The St. Catharines Enterprise Centre
- City arenas (excluding Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre)
- Russell Avenue Community Centre
- Port Weller Community Centre
- Dunlop Drive and West St. Catharines older adult centres
- Victoria Lawn Cemetery administration office (visitation is always available from dawn to dusk)
- Meridian Centre (including the box office).
